This special mix of salted red skin peanuts and chocolate babies originated in the early 1920s in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. It was recalled that Paul Matter owned a Studebaker garage just across Main Street from the VanDeusen's Candy Shop. The mechanics brought peanuts and chocolate babies back from VanDeusen's, and would mix them together in a tin. They placed it on the manifold of a running Studebaker, slightly warming the mixture, thus the name "Garage Mixture" originated. Since then Garage Mix has been enjoyed by generations of candy lovers everywhere. Maybe after eating a handful of Garage Mix you will be reminded of old times spent in downtown Honesdale and the VanDeusen's Candy Shop.
Garage Mix: a tasty memory from years gone by!
Directions: Mix together chocolate babies and peanuts in your designer can, slightly warm. This will allow the salt from the peanuts to coat the chocolate babies, and together will give you that unforgettable taste! You too, in years to come, may reminisce of old times spent with family and friends enjoying "Garage Mixture."
